Many wrinkle creams that are sold in department stores, pharmacies or on the internet promise to reduce wrinkles and prevent or minimize the damage from the sun. The look of your skin can be improved depending on how long time do you use the product, amount and type of active ingredients in anti-wrinkle cream. The effectiveness of anti-wrinkle cream depends on the active ingredient.
Here are some of the most common ingredients that help us to improve the look of our skin by reducing wrinkles. The ingredients are sorted from light to moderate:
1) Synake (SYN ®-AKE) is a new anti wrinkle cream, Swiss product, who won the Swiss Technology Award in 2006. Synake is a new anti wrinkle solution based on a synthetic tripeptide that imitate the effects of waglerin-1, a peptide found in the venom of the Temple Viper. When the snake bites its prey, the venom blocks the nerve that impulses to muscles, thereby paralyzing the victim. Although this process may cause death, but the synthetic imitation of parts of the venom only causes relaxation of facial muscle contractions, leading to smoother skin and a new desire to enjoy life.
2) Collagen. Most people who are interested in maintaining youthful skin and reducing wrinkles are familiar with collagen. Collagen is a protein (a biological polymer consisting of amino acids) that works as a key structural component of connective tissue such as skin and bones.. The dermis, the inner layer of the skin, contains large amounts of collagen whose fibers form a supporting mesh responsible for skin’s physical attributes such as strength, texture and elasticity. Creams containing collagen help replace the collagen that is lost on the surface area of the skin.
3) Botox. Botulinum toxin (Botox ™) has been used for decades for the treatment of neuromuscular diseases. Few years ago cosmetic surgeons began to use this ingredient to reduce wrinkles. Botox ™ weakens the facial muscles that cause wrinkles. It is particularly effective in the treatment of forehead wrinkles, vertical frown lines, crow’s feet and horizontal lines of the neck (platysma bands). It is not so effective in treating deeper wrinkles of the skin, including wrinkles formed as a result of damage caused by trauma for example. The results of Botox ™ injections are in general satisfactory and often breathtaking. To preserve the desired effect repeated injections of Botox ™ are required .
4) Retinol. Retinol is a vitamin A substance and is the first widespread antioxidant anti-wrinkle cream without a prescription. Antioxidants are substances that neutralize the action of free radicals, unstable oxygen molecules that attack skin cells and cause wrinkles. Retinol is less powerful derivative of vitamin A, tretinoin, who is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for wrinkles treatment and needs a prescription. Stay away from vitamin A derivatives if you are pregnant or may become pregnant because they raise the risk of birth defects.
5) Hydroxyacids. Alpha-hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acids and poly hydroxy acids are synthetic versions of acids based on fruits containing sugar. Those are exfoliants, acids that remove the top layer of old and dead skin, and stimulate the growth of new and smoother skin, with uniform pigmentation. Since hydroxy acids are vulnerable to damage from the sun, stay out of the sun entirely, or wear a sunblock anytime you go outdoors.
6) Coenzyme Q10. Coenzyme Q10 is a nutritious substance which enables you to regulate energy production in cells. A latest research indicates a decrease in wrinkles around the eyes without causing any side effects. Other research shows that use of Coenzyme Q10 before sun exposure protects against sun damage.
7) Green tea, black tea and oolong tea extracts. These tea extract contain substances with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory components. Green tea extract is the most popular in wrinkle creams.
